At the 2025 Mobile World Congress (MWC), Quectel introduced the QuecPi Alpha, an open-source development board designed for edge computing and targeted at the global market.
High-Performance Processing
The QuecPi Alpha is powered by the Qualcomm QCS6490 processor, featuring an 8-core CPU and 8GB or 4GB LPDDR4X memory. With an AI computing capability of up to 12 TOPS, it supports Linux, Ubuntu, and other open-source operating systems. The board integrates the Qualcomm Adreno 642L/643 GPU, enabling efficient processing of image and video data for AI tasks.
It supports dual-display functionality, compatible with DisplayPort (DP) and LCD modules (LCM), or DP and HDMI. This versatility enhances its suitability for industrial and consumer applications requiring high-speed data processing and multimedia capabilities.
AIoT Applications
The QuecPi Alpha's robust AI capabilities make it ideal for various AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) applications, such as object and image recognition. It performs reliably in complex scenarios, supporting industries like smart transportation and security.
In smart transportation, the board enables rapid and accurate identification of vehicles, license plates, and pedestrians, enhancing real-time decision-making for traffic management. In security, it supports low-latency processing for efficient data handling.
Connectivity and Interfaces
The board features Wi-Fi (2.4 & 5G), IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 5.0. It uses a Type-C power interface and supports external eMMC and SSD storage. Additional interfaces include PCIe, USB 3.1 Type-C, (U)SIM, UART, GPIO, MIPI camera, HDMI output, and Gigabit Ethernet, catering to diverse development needs in AI edge computing, industrial robotics, multimedia terminals, digital signage, and smart home systems.
Open-Source Ecosystem
The QuecPi Alpha supports a wide range of applications within an open-source ecosystem, enabling developers to create innovative solutions. For instance, it can power personalized home media centers for enhanced audiovisual experiences. In security, it supports image recognition algorithms for precise tracking of people and vehicles, detecting anomalies like intrusions. Research teams can leverage its compatibility with open-source deep learning frameworks to accelerate AI development.
The board offers a long lifecycle, with stable supply guaranteed until 2036, meeting the demands of industrial and consumer devices for longevity and reliability. It is currently available as an engineering sample through various e-commerce platforms in China and globally, with technical support provided to developers.
