Reports of occasional touchscreen unresponsiveness on some smartphones can have several causes. The following six methods address common hardware, power, and software issues.
1. Replace the charger and USB cable
If the touchscreen becomes less responsive while charging, try a different charger and cable. Non-standard or faulty chargers can generate electromagnetic interference that affects touchscreen operation.
2. Try a different outlet or power strip
If changing the charger and cable does not help, test a different power outlet or power strip. Unstable or poorly grounded outlets can cause charging fluctuations that affect the touchscreen.
3. Charge from a computer to test
Connect the smartphone to a computer for charging. If the touchscreen behaves normally when charging from the computer, the issue is likely caused by the original charger or outlet rather than the phone itself.
4. Reboot the phone
If power accessories and outlets have been ruled out, reboot the phone to release any static charge and reset drivers. A simple restart can resolve temporary touch-control glitches.
5. Clear cache and data via recovery mode
Power off the device, then press and hold the volume down and power buttons for about 10 seconds to enter recovery mode. From recovery, clear the cache and, if necessary, perform a data wipe according to the device manufacturer's recovery options.
6. Avoid unofficial ROMs or builds
Touchscreen behavior depends on software drivers. If the device is running an unofficial ROM or an unofficial build of ColorOS, touchscreen drivers may be incompatible, causing poor responsiveness, erroneous input, or even permanent touchscreen damage. Reverting to an official build or a compatible driver is recommended.
