Overview
With recent advances in biometric technologies, palm vein recognition has gained wider attention and practical deployment. Over the past year the technology expanded rapidly and has been applied in scenarios such as palm-based payment, transit access, and residential access, among others.
Fujitsu has been developing palm vein recognition technology for more than 20 years. Because palm veins are an internal physiological feature, they are harder to falsify than external features. Compared with more common biometric methods such as fingerprint, face, or iris recognition, palm vein recognition offers greater stability and security. It is also less affected by external conditions such as skin wear, moisture, or dirt, which contributes to high recognition accuracy.

Fujitsu PalmSecure Authentication Technology
The PSD-C86 intelligent palm vein terminal implements Fujitsu PalmSecure authentication technology. It is a high-precision liveness-based identity recognition solution intended for environments that require accurate identification, such as banks, regulated facilities, premium office buildings, and smart city deployments.
PSD-C86 Palm Vein Terminal
The PSD-C86 palm vein capture device includes the following characteristics:
- No contact required, so users generally do not resist on hygiene grounds, making it suitable for use by a broad and variable population.
- Authentication requires only presenting the palm, a natural and simple action.
- The palm contains numerous and complex blood vessels, which supports high recognition accuracy compared with other biometric methods.
- Palm veins are a concealed feature, providing stable and secure identification.
- Because it is an internal physiological feature that remains stable in adulthood, it is difficult to forge. The palm vein sensor also includes liveness detection.
Non-contact Authentication
Authentication is performed without direct contact and with a simple, natural motion.
Performance Characteristics
High precision, high security, and high stability.

PSD-C86 Application Mode
The PSD-C86 supports a split configuration that separates the sensing/reading unit from the management and control unit.

Recognition Principle
Technical details describe how the PSD-C86 captures and processes palm vein patterns to generate a biometric template for matching. The device integrates sensing hardware and liveness detection to reduce spoofing risk while maintaining repeatable capture quality.
