China Releases Automotive Reverberation Chamber Standard

Author : Adrian September 09, 2025

New Test Method for Automotive EMC

The Chinese national standard GB/T 33014.11-2023, "Road vehicles - Test methods for electrical/electronic components for immunity to narrowband radiated electromagnetic energy - Part 11: Reverberation chamber method," was released on September 7, 2023. CATARC New Energy Vehicle Test Center (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. led a group of over 30 organizations in developing the standard. Scheduled for implementation on April 1, 2024, this standard introduces a new test method for the electromagnetic immunity of automotive components.

Test Center Capabilities

The CATARC New Energy Vehicle Test Center operates a whole-vehicle electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) reverberation chamber with fast stirring test capabilities. Its immunity testing covers a frequency range of 50 MHz to 6 GHz. The chamber can generate narrowband continuous wave (CW) field strengths up to 200 V/m and pulsed wave field strengths up to 600 V/m. In addition to the standard narrowband signals, its signal sources can generate various modulated electromagnetic signals through internal creation or capture-and-replay to simulate complex electromagnetic environments. These capabilities meet the latest Chinese and international testing standards for both whole vehicles and components.

Future Developments

Going forward, the Test Center will continue to advance the development of the whole-vehicle EMC reverberation chamber standard GB/T 33012.5. The center will also promote the implementation of new automotive EMC technologies, including those related to reverberation chambers, to support advancements in the automotive industry.
