Overview
Xiaomi Watch is Xiaomi's first smart watch product. In early September Xiaomi registered the "Xiaomi Watch COLOR" trademark, and after several rounds of leaks the watch was officially unveiled. Some observers described it as a "smartphone in a watch form factor".
Design
The watch uses a 1.78-inch square display with a four-curved glass face, a ceramic back, and a sandblasted metal middle frame for improved wear resistance. The strap is skin-friendly and hypoallergenic, and the device is offered in Classic Black and Tech Silver color options.
Hardware
It is among the first wearables to ship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 4G variant. The system runs MIUI for Watch, which is optimized for square dials to match natural reading habits and increase usable screen area for more precise operation.
The watch includes an eSIM chip, enabling standalone calls and internet access without relying on Bluetooth. It also features an independent high-performance CPU, standalone GPS, NFC, separate Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module, a linear motor, and a built-in speaker. The battery capacity is 570 mAh, supporting approximately 36 hours of use, compared with about 18 hours for the Apple Watch Series 5.
Software and Interaction
The device offers over 100 watch faces and supports custom watch faces. Voice operation supports three wake methods, including wake-up for the Xiao Ai voice assistant, allowing voice commands for tasks such as hailing a ride, playing music, and controlling smart home devices.
Health, Sports, and Apps
The watch provides real-time monitoring for sleep, heart rate, stress, and body energy levels, supports VO2max analysis, and includes 10 professional sport modes. On the app front, it is compatible with more than 40 applications, including Keep, QQ Chat, and Hanglv Zongheng.
Battery, Pricing, and Availability
The standard edition is priced at 1,299 yuan. A premium edition is priced at 1,999 yuan; the main differences are in materials and manufacturing. The premium edition uses four-curved sapphire glass and a stainless steel strap, while functionality remains the same as the standard edition. The standard edition opened for pre-order today at 17:00 and will go on sale across channels on Singles' Day, while the premium edition is scheduled for release in December.
Market Context
IDC latest data indicates global wearable device shipments in 2019 may exceed 222.9 million units. Smartwatches and true wireless earbuds are the main drivers of this growth. In IDC's earlier "China Wearable Device Market Quarterly Tracking Report, Q1 2019", Xiaomi ranked among the top five, with competitiveness on price and features cited as a major growth factor. At a projected compound annual growth rate of 7.9%, the global wearable market could surpass 300 million units by 2023. Xiaomi's IoT ecosystem positioning may provide strategic advantages in the wearable segment.
