Overview
This reference design is a simple, wearable, multi-parameter patient monitor that uses the single-chip biosensing front end AFE4900 to perform synchronous electrocardiogram (ECG) and photoplethysmography (PPG) measurements. A CC2640R2F device (supports BLE 4.2 and 5.0) transmits measured data to a remote location. The design runs from a single CR3032 coin cell and provides about 30 days of battery life. Raw data are available for computing heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), pulse transit time (PTT), and ECG. Two onboard LEDs indicate low-battery detection and ECG lead detection.
Features
- Simple, wearable, multi-parameter patient monitor for PPG and ECG
- Provides raw data for computing heart rate, SpO2, and PTT
- ECG and PPG synchronous measurement using the single-chip biosensing front end AFE4900
- PPG (optical heart-rate monitoring and SpO2) supports four LEDs and three photodiodes (PDs), and improves signal-to-noise ratio via digital ambient subtraction
- ECG signal: Lead I
- Integrated Arm Cortex-M3 and 2.4 GHz RF transceiver (CC2640R2F) supports wireless data transfer: BLE 4.2 and 5.0
- Operates from a CR3032 (3 V, 500 mAh coin cell) using an efficient DC/DC converter, yielding approximately 30 days of battery life
- Small form factor suitable for wearable applications
