Is WiFi 6 5G WiFi?
WiFi 6 refers to Wi-Fi networks using the IEEE 802.11ax wireless network technology, also called 5G WiFi or High-Efficiency Wireless LAN (HE WLAN). IEEE 802.11ax is the sixth-generation Wi-Fi standard. Compared with previous standards, it can provide higher throughput, greater bandwidth, and improved network efficiency, suitable for homes, offices, and public venues. Therefore, WiFi 6 and 5G WiFi both refer to Wi-Fi networks based on IEEE 802.11ax wireless technology in this context.
Differences Between 5G WiFi and WiFi 6
- Different standards: 5G WiFi refers to Wi-Fi networks using IEEE 802.11ac and IEEE 802.11ax wireless network technologies, while WiFi 6 specifically refers to networks using IEEE 802.11ax.
- Throughput: WiFi 6 can provide higher peak throughput, up to 9.6 Gbps. By comparison, 5G WiFi is stated here with a maximum throughput around 3.5 Gbps.
- Bandwidth and frequency bands: WiFi 6 supports wider bandwidth and broader frequency bands, offering more wireless channels to reduce congestion and interference and increase network throughput.
