Initially PCBs were designed manually by creating a photomask on a clear mylar sheet, usually at two or four times the true size. Starting from the schematic diagram the component pin pads were laid out on the mylar and then traces were routed to connect the pads. If you have many questions of PCB Design, please come here!

How to toggle visibility of the GND airwires in the ratsnest?

As far as I know, the autorouter decides to connect ground pins on opposite sides of the PCB by long meandering tracks and takes up valuable signal routing space.

Being able to highlight several nets and leaving the rest visible but not hiding the ones of interest would be a good solution.

It's not a good idea to be able to dhide individual nets of the ratsnest. To remove them from the netlist is really a bad idea.
