In assembly the bare board is populated with electronic components, called a "printed circuit board assembly" (PCBA). In through-hole technology, the component leads are inserted in holes surrounded by conductive pads; In surface-mount technology (SMT), the component is placed on the PCB so that the pins line up with the conductive pads or lands on the surfaces of the PCB.

Turn-Key SMT Line Increases Productivity per Square Foot

Visitors to the Samsung stand (#859) at APEX can see the complete SM Series SMT manufacturing line that includes the SMP400 Screen Printer, SM411 Dynamic Chip Shooter, SM421 Advanced Flexible Mounter and SRF7082 Reflow Oven. The SM Line can be configured with Samsung SM IT Feeder Systems to enable complete lot and inventory management and tracking. Delivering a 364 CPH per square foot yield (based on IPC9850), the SM Series line increases the effectiveness of SMT production in today's competitive OEM and CMS markets. Samsung's stand includes the SM321XLB with its large board capability, legacy CP45FV NEO Advanced Component Placer along with a complete SM Series IT Feeder management system.

We provide complete product and process support to get our customers SMT lines up and running efficiently," said Mike Foster, General Manager of Dynatech Technology. "The SM series is a perfect choice for OEMs and Tier 2 contract manufacturers who need to maximize floor space and productivity. Our SM line at APEX optimizes the use of available real estate on the factory floor."
The newest members of the SM Series are the Samsung Screen Printer SMP400 with its patented Advanced Separation Control (ASC) Function and printing times of less than 9 seconds per board. The SMP400 includes a host of standard features including a patented PCB clamping that automatically changes clamping direction based on squeegee printing direction to ensure a clean, accurate paste deposit.
The SRF7082 Reflow Soldering System combines automatic and economical reflow with a suite of standard features and options designed to fit a wide variety of production needs. Offered in standard air and optional nitrogen versions, the SRF7082 delivers mesh belt and conveyor board handling, integrated cooling and flux management with a multifunctional, high efficiency heating systems to deliver world-class reflow quality.
Providing support for larger boards is the SM321XLB configuration capable of handling up to 20" x 24" for large board requirements while providing a stable, high-speed flexible platform. The SM321XLB uses the SM Feeder, Samsung IT Feeders, Samsung Tray Handler and other SM Series options.
An IT Mobile Feeder Workstation is a new addition to the IT Feeders System. The workstation includes a bar code scanner, IT Feeder base and PC as a mobile set-up system that can be moved from line to line to assist in line set-up. The Workstation communicates with the Oracle database driven IT Feeder system over existing network architecture to close the loop on material control. Bar code labels are printed in the stock room as material is received to ensure end-to-end traceability of components from receiving to final product shipment.
