It is difficult to bet against the rise of automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robots as it has major impact in the way we learn, shop and play. It is difficult to predict on robotics and the other associated areas of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
But, one thing that remains constant in this entire flux is that robotics has an increased role in business and life.
As predicted by the research firm of International Data Corp (IDC) Study, has some of its predictions for worldwide Enterprise Robotics for 2017. IDC predicts by 2019, the leading non-manufacturing organizations will start exploring the use of robots in the areas of logistics, utilities, health and resources, to automate other operational aspects for these enterprises.
There was also a report from IDC, which highlighted the key drivers for Enterprise Robotics for 2017 and how it is about to shape the planning of robotics, from 2017 to 2020. In a more recent forecast from IDC, from 2017 and beyond, they see the emergence of AI and robotics into more affordable, easier to use and capable to handle applications.
Whatever may be the direction in which US politics will be shaping, AI and robotics are simply emerging out of the factory setups and entering into the business enterprises. This type of advancements are made possible through the continuous innovations in Artificial Intelligence, microelectromechanical sensors (MEMS), computer vision and semiconductor technologies.
Here, are some of the top predictions made by IDC on robotics:
1. The evolution of the robot-as-a-service model (RaaS)
The cost of robot deployment will be reduced as by 2019, RaaS will be adopted as a business model by 30 % of commercial service robotic application.
2. Chief Robotics Officer for Enterprises
30% of the leading companies will have robotic function headed by a Chief Robotic Officer.
3. Increased Demand for Employees with Robotics Skills
By 2020, there will be a dearth of robotics related skills and a 35 % vacancy in the jobs.
4. Competitive Robotic Vendor Marketplace
A greater choice of vendors will be available by 2020, as we will see more players entering the market on information and communications technology market.
5. Regulations for the Robotics Industry for Safety, Security and Privacy
By 2019, there will be attempt to preserve jobs and address the related issues of privacy, security and safety.
6. More of Cloud-based Robotic Software
60% of robots will depend on the cloud-based software for the Robotics Cloud Marketplace.
7. Robots which are Smarter, Faster and Collaborative
By 2018, we will see the advent of collaborative Robots, faster and safer to work around the humans.
8. Commercial Robots with Intelligent Mesh Network
The commercial Robots, by 2020 will be connected with a mesh of shared intelligence.
There are major issues that need to be resolved, so far as Robotics is concerned. First of all, the countries like Korea, China and the European Union are spending more on the trending Robotic technology and has already got the infrastructure to enable this process.
We are about to see loss of jobs on account of Robotics. The current Government has already got the policies formulated so as to handle the emergence of AI and Robotics and its influence on the US economy. This also has plans for training and educating the people for the jobs of the future and also expanding the social security network for the workers, ensuring the transition to a more automated and advanced economy.
