Intelligent O&M moudle

Overview

In the digital era, mobile phones are no longer just telecommunications devices; they are tightly integrated with payment, entertainment, and work, making them indispensable. Beyond increasingly powerful hardware, the infrastructure and higher-level applications that support the mobile internet are critical.

Recent industry data in China indicate that 5G base stations total approximately 3.055 million, accounting for 26.9% of all base stations, and the total number of base stations is estimated to exceed 11.35 million. These base stations support the mobile internet, and maintaining them requires substantial O&M effort.

Base Station O&M Challenges

Tower communication sites cost tens of thousands to millions of yuan to build, and the equipment inside is expensive and requires regular maintenance. The large number of sites makes manual patrols costly, time consuming, and inconsistent in quality. Remote locations such as roadside or mountainous sites increase the risk of delayed detection for faults or theft, often resulting in larger economic losses.

With the development of artificial intelligence, IoT, and edge computing, tower O&M is becoming more automated and intelligent. AI and edge computing can enable automated management that detects and alerts on damage, loss, and other anomalies, enabling rapid detection and response. This shifts operations from periodic manual inspection to online intelligent inspection, where AI algorithms handle monitoring and personnel handle fault remediation to ensure infrastructure stability.

Chujing Infinite Base Station O&M Solution

The Chujing Infinite base station intelligent O&M solution provides automated remote management for operator sites. Using lightweight edge computing devices that connect to multiple on-site sensors, the solution performs real-time analysis to address the high cost, long cycles, and low efficiency of manual inspections.

The solution follows an "AI + sensor software-defined edge device" concept and provides a containerized algorithm management platform. It supports deployment of algorithms for asset change detection, human detection, fire and smoke detection, face capture, fall detection, and collection of various sensor data such as air conditioning airspeed, cabinet sealing, battery connection looseness, tower posture, and lightning protection sensors.

On site, video sensors combined with edge computing devices enable 24/7 monitoring. When an anomaly is detected, the edge device performs real-time recognition, stores local alarms, and uploads alarms to the cloud via 4G/5G. Alarm site, type, video, and images are pushed to a management mobile app. Management staff can review video via the app and dispatch personnel for on-site handling.

Solution Details

Edge: Sensors

The solution primarily uses visual sensors and an intelligent video analysis gateway to support a variety of intelligent O&M functions. On-site sensors include IP cameras and other sensors such as wind speed, temperature, tilt, and lightning protection, which can be integrated for comprehensive site status awareness.

Edge: Edge Computing Unit

The intelligent video analysis gateway uses a high-performance, low-power AI processor and custom AI algorithms for fast, accurate processing. It supports simultaneous processing of multiple front-end sensors, real-time data collection and analysis, and rapid on-site decision making. It supports 4G/5G data transmission and can be customized to connect to various wireless or wired sensors. Wireless options include WiFi, LoRa, and ZigBee. Wired options include RS485, RJ45, RS232, and digital I/O.

The edge intelligent unit can automatically switch inspection scenes based on scheduled tasks and use AI algorithms for comparison. When risks are detected, it stores local alarms and uploads them to the cloud via 4G/5G.

Cloud: Intelligent Inspection Platform

The intelligent inspection platform comprises a large-screen display platform and an intelligent inspection system, and it supports a mobile app. The display system can be configured to show site locations, alarms, device status, and video feeds on an electronic map so that data and alarm conditions are clearly visible.

The intelligent inspection system supports device management, map-based location of sites and alarms, video preview and control to assist remote fault diagnosis, video data storage, intelligent inspection, and decision support. AI inspection combined with human supervision enables comprehensive control.

The mobile app supports intelligent alarm notifications, in-app video preview and playback, and alarm information lookup to help O&M staff quickly locate faults.

Benefits

The solution enables an intelligent upgrade of mobile communications O&M with the following benefits.

Low project construction cost

The intelligent video analysis gateway supports existing cameras, enabling reuse of legacy equipment. It is compact and easy to install, with a typical single-site deployment taking about two hours. Wireless network configuration reduces deployment time and shortens construction cycles.

High security level

The gateway hardware and software are designed by the supplier and provide edge AI compute. The unit integrates functions such as NVR, router, PoE switch, and 4G module, and supports GB28181 and B+ protocol interfaces for platform integration.

High data reliability

Continuous analysis and alerting run 24/7, shifting from passive monitoring to proactive prevention and in-incident alerts. Management can quickly locate events via the platform, improving emergency response efficiency.

Improved efficiency and reduced O&M costs

The approach moves operations from periodic manual site inspections to daily AI-driven automated inspections, significantly reducing on-site labor and transportation costs.
