To make sense of so many PCB design software

2017/6/5 14:52:38

There are many circuit design softwares available to satisfy diversified layout requirement, including free PCB design software and online free PCB design softwares. While there are so many available on the Internet, only a few are actually worth using. If you Google “design software for PCB”, you’ll get close to 2 million hits. This can be a bit overwhelming for you.So, how does one go about making sense of all these options?

Someone else asked this so I'll copy paste my answer from there:

I really like Eagle PCB from Autodesk.

It's free if you're a student (unlimited board size and layers) and otherwise has nice price scaling and a free option for two layer boards that makes it usable for normal people. I used to use Altium Designer but the price is too high (~10k USD) for personal projects.

PCBWeb Designer is easy to install, use, and learn. If you want a simple program to design schematics, then TinyCAD is good.
